Roger and Rosie After Zeus' passing our home seemed so out of sorts. We loved our little dog so very much. We know how much a companion animal brings to your life and we couldn't imagine life without the wags of a tail or that special dog "smile" that says I am glad you're home. We were one of many families that contemplated the next step after such a loss. Should we take some time before sharing our home with another companion animal? We talked about bringing a puppy into our home. We discussed all the shelter pets that so desperately need homes. A colleague suggested getting two dogs -- so they would have a buddy. A few weeks later we began "surfing" to local San Diego rescue sites and animal shelter web pages. We completed two different organization's adoption applications and had plans to see two pair of Dachshunds in need of a new home. Sometimes you need rescued... Roger and Rosie's human parents, were in the seventies when they brought two puppies to their home. Their human mom passed first and then their human dad, who was in his 80's, passed in the spring of 2007. Their family did not live in the state and could not take them. The bonded pair of eight year olds found themselves in need a of new home. Sadly, based on their age and being a bonded pair, the chance of getting adopted via a traditional shelter was very low. Thank goodness for rescue organizations like, 2ndchancedoxie.com that stepped up and helped Roger and Rosie's human big sister make a very difficult decision, a bit easier. Helping to mend a broken heart... Roger and Rosie came to visit on a Saturday in mid June and moved in on Sunday. They met all the neighbors and won over everyone. They are funny, smart and definitely a couple. Rosie is petite and pretty and loves for Roger to give her kisses. Roger is dapper with classic distinguished looks. We are committed to keeping them in the best possible health. We watch the diet and weight, exercise regularly and they sleep in a KuddleKot*. Two years later Something will happen and I still miss my sweet Zeus. Two years and more later tears still come to my eyes. Roger seemed to find the toys that Zeus never really took to. Rosie is not a toy girl but she loves to cuddle. Our 4+ year old new neighbor Kimmie really likes Rosie and even brought her a toy slipper to match Rogers favorite toy. Roger promptly claimed it as his own. It is so different having two dogs to share your life with. Their "personalities" are very different but they are such a couple. They have both visited the holistic vet for chiropractic care and remain in good health. I treasure every day we have to share with them. Terrie
